25Hours Hotel Hafen City, Hamburg
The 25hours Hotels are a unique group of boutique hotels focused on cool design and very specific attention to detail. The design is based on a maritime theme to fit into the surroundings of HafenCity and the port area.
Hafen City, the industrial quarter being revitalised around the Port of Hamburg, on the Elbe River looks as though to be a bit of an under-development ghost town, although there’s actually a lot happening around the area, it has convenient links to the train station and magnificent views of the harbour and a couple construction sites. The airport is only 13km away. The hotel is placed in a great location to explore with many restaurants and ice cream parlours close by and within walking distance to many of Hamburg’s attractions.
The hotel also offers guests Schindelhauer bikes for rent or a Mini to borrow during your stay.
Every detail of the hotel’s décor has been accurately designed and well thought out from the use of shipping containers and crates to the rope ladder, wooden travel trunk, globe lamp and logbook in the room.
I stayed in the M Cabin+, they are 21-25 sqm and have queen-size beds, air conditioning, Bluetooth speakers, free wi-fi (with a great connection, might I add), walk-in showers, large bottles of 100 per cent natural shampoo and soap that say “Stop the water while using me!” The rooms overlook the harbour or courtyard and have full-length windows which is a lovely addition for some natural light and the harbour breeze. Designed as a home away from home, the room feels like a cosy cabin and the cute little touches of the cuddly sleep sheep and hot water bottle by the bed add to the experience. The perfect room for a short city break stay.
On the sixth-floor rooftop there is a partially open sauna, creatively decorated and built into a shipping container. There are outdoor showers, a punching bag and complimentary beer and water with views of the harbour.
The first floor mezzanine contains an open-plan Club lounge where guests can sit and work, play games or table football, there is also a complimentary organic tea section and a glass-walled Vinyl room perfect for chilling out and listening to some records.
The buffet breakfast spread in the Heimat Küche+Bar was very commendable with a large variety of hot and cold dishes, continental breakfast and fresh bread and croissants and all tasted extremely fresh. I loved the décor in the dining room, particularly the little carpet stack sofas and the window tables.
For a short break I would recommend the M Cabin+
The close vicinity to the train station, the breakfast and the super cool sauna area
